Description:

Cytabin 500 contains Cytarabine, an antimetabolite chemotherapeutic agent. It interferes with DNA synthesis, primarily affecting rapidly dividing cancer cells. Cytabin 500 is commonly used in the treatment of hematological malignancies.

Indications:

• Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)

• Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL)

• Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) (blast crisis)

• Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (as part of combination therapy)

• Meningeal leukemia (intrathecal administration)

Mechanism of Action:

Cytarabine is a cytosine analog that gets phosphorylated inside the cell to active triphosphate form, which inhibits DNA polymerase and blocks DNA synthesis, leading to cell death.

Packaging:

• Single-dose vial containing 500 mg of Cytarabine (as powder for reconstitution).

Storage:

• Store below 25°C.

• Protect from light.

• After reconstitution, use within recommended time as per manufacturer guidelines.

Common Side Effects:

• Bone marrow suppression (neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia)

• Nausea, vomiting

• Fever, rash

• Neurotoxicity at high doses

• Hepatotoxicity

• Conjunctivitis

Precautions:

• Use under supervision of an oncologist.

• Monitor blood counts regularly.

• Caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.

• May require steroid eye drops to prevent conjunctivitis during high-dose therapy.
