🧠 Indications

Flexibac syrup is prescribed to relieve muscle spasticity and associated symptoms in conditions such as:

  • Multiple sclerosis (spasticity, flexor spasms, clonus, rigidity)

  • Rheumatic muscle disorders

  • Spinal cord injury or disease

  • Cerebrovascular accidents (stroke), neoplastic or degenerative brain disease


⚙️ Mechanism of Action

  • Stimulates GABAB_B receptors in the spinal cord, inhibiting both mono‑ and polysynaptic reflexes

  • Suppresses release of excitatory neurotransmitters (glutamate, aspartate)

  • May have central antinociceptive (pain‑relief) effects


🧭 Dosage & Administration

  • Adults & Children ≥10 years: Start with 5 mg (5 ml) three times daily with food. Titrate up gently; usual maximum 80–100 mg/day

  • Children <10 years: Begin with 2.5 mg (2.5 ml) four times daily. Maintenance dosing varies by age group:

    • 12 mo–2 yr: 10–20 mg/day

    • 2–6 yr: 20–30 mg/day

    • 6–10 yr: 30–60 mg/day 

  • Dosage adjustments required for elderly or patients with renal impairment


⚠️ Contraindications & Precautions

  • Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to baclofen

  • Use cautiously if the patient has:

    • Peptic ulcer disease

    • Epilepsy

    • Psychiatric conditions

    • Cerebrovascular or cardiopulmonary disorders

    • Hepatic or renal impairment

    • Avoid abrupt discontinuation—withdrawal can occur

  • Pregnant (Category B3) and nursing mothers: only if benefits outweigh risks 


⚕️ Interactions

  • Additive CNS depression with alcohol, opioids, other sedatives; higher risk of respiratory depression

  • May enhance hypotensive effects of antihypertensives

  • Interactions with TCAs lead to increased muscle relaxation

  • Levodopa/carbidopa combination may cause confusion, hallucinations

  • Caution with MAO inhibitors, neuromuscular blockers 


🚨 Side Effects

Common (≥10%): drowsiness, sedation, dizziness, weakness, fatigue
Less frequent: headache, insomnia, euphoria, confusion, hallucinations, nausea, constipation, urinary changes, hypotension, respiratory depression, seizures, coordination problems, visual disturbances, rash, weight gain, etc.

  • Overdose: Gastric lavage may be needed; respiratory and cardiac support critical

  • Storage: Keep below 30 °C, protect from light and moisture. Store out of reach of children
