Description:
Itraconazole is an antifungal medication belonging to the triazole class. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes, thereby disrupting the cell membrane and leading to fungal cell death. It is used to treat a variety of fungal infections including blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, aspergillosis, and onychomycosis (fungal nail infections). -
Dosage:
The dosage of Itraconazole varies depending on the type and severity of the infection. Common adult doses include:-
For systemic fungal infections: 200 mg once daily or 100 mg twice daily for 6 to 12 weeks or longer depending on clinical response.

For onychomycosis: 200 mg once daily for 12 weeks for fingernail infections or 24 weeks for toenail infections.

Always follow the prescribing physician’s instructions and complete the full course of therapy. The tablets are usually taken with food to enhance absorption.
